Approach

OUR ORIGIN: BORN IN THE INDUSTRY

Matière Blanche is a design studio founded by professionals with direct experience in the industrial sector. This immersion has allowed us to observe a paradox:industrial companies possess exceptional know-how and sites rich in powerful stories, but often lack the skills to transform these assets into accessible and memorable experiences.

Our approach addresses three concrete challenges we have identified in the field:

  • The social acceptability of industrial activities in the territories
  • The promotion of trades and know-how to the general public (recruitment, internal pride)
  • The development of industrial tourism, a rapidly growing sector in France (22 million visitors in 2024, +30% in five years according to the General Directorate of Enterprises)

It is from this observation that our approach was born: to reveal the value of your sites by merging skills that were not originally meant to meet.

OUR APPROACH: THREE EXPERTISES, ONE METHOD

Matière Blanche stands out by combining three complementary professional skills:

1. Entertainment and storytelling techniques

We use staging methods from live performance and cinema to structure the visitor experience. This approach includes:

  • The scenography of spaces and circulation
  • Narrative dramaturgy adapted to industrial sites
  • Immersive lighting and sound systems
  • Visual and graphic creation

In concrete terms:a calcination furnace becomes a scenographically designed focal point, a production line transforms into a structured pathway, and technical gestures are highlighted as performances.

2. Experiential educational engineering

We design learning devices based on sensory and interactive experiences:

  • Visit pathways structured by educational objectives
  • Installations allowing for manipulation and experimentation
  • Mediation devices adapted to different audiences (students, general public, professionals)
  • Signage and interpretation materials

Our principle:to make understanding happen through the body and emotion before intellect. To touch raw and transformed materials. To hear the frequencies of machines. To walk in the traces of processes. The sensory experience does not simplify the complex – it makes it accessible.

3. Knowledge of industrial environments

Our experience in the industrial sector allows us to:

  • Understand operational constraints (safety, continuous production, flow)
  • Engage in effective dialogue with technical and management teams
  • Integrate social and territorial acceptability issues
  • Respect corporate cultures and on-the-ground realities

Our strength:we speak your language. We know that every proposal must take into account production continuity, safety standards, and realistic budgets. This intimate knowledge allows us to create notdespiteyour constraints, butwiththem.

OUR METHOD IN ACTION

Geotour Project: weaving nature, culture, and industry

Geotour is a territorial device that addresses a social acceptability issue by creating a link between industrial activities and the inhabitants of the area.

The device includes three components:

Industrial site visitsStructured tours that allow visitors to discover production processes and know-how, with a scenography that highlights the existing.

Nature walksWalking routes in natural spaces located near industrial sites, creating a breath of fresh air and a territorial reconnection.

Cultural mediationLinking devices that facilitate dialogue between these usually separate dimensions – creating emotional and intellectual bridges.

Result:by alternating industrial immersion and natural breathing, Geotour transforms territorial discovery into an experience where one physically understands the interdependence between extraction, transformation, and the environment. Visitors do not consume a service – they experience something that changes their perspective.

Saint Hilaire Group: a modular system for enhancement

For the Saint Hilaire Group, a producer of mineral fillers operating limestone quarries since 1947, we have developed an adaptable and sustainable staging solution.

The specifications:

  • Enhance industrial sites during various events
  • Create visual coherence between factories and presence at trade shows
  • Respect the constraints of active sites
  • Enable reusability (sustainable and economical approach)

Our response: a modular staging device

This reconfigurable system allows us to stage different contexts without starting from scratch each time:

  • Temporary setups during events (open house days, professional receptions)
  • Equipping presentation spaces in factories
  • Configuration of booths at trade shows

The integrated artistic dimension

We have created a series of graphic panels that capture the abstract beauty of mineral processes – the textures of limestones, the geometric shapes of installations, the contrasts of materials. These creations are not applied decoration: they arise from careful observation of what the mineral industry naturally produces. We reveal what already exists but that no one looks at anymore.

These works now inhabit the factories and accompany the group at its booths, creating a coherent experiential identity that says:our industry produces technical value, but also beauty.

Measurable benefits:

  • Image consistency across all touchpoints
  • Cost savings through the reusability of the system
  • Enhancement of industrial spaces on a daily basis, not just during events
  • Increased pride among internal teams who see their work environment valued

OUR SIGNATURE: WHAT DISTINGUISHES US

We transform the essence of places, not just their communication.

Our intervention does not stop at signage or communication materials. We reconfigure space, create gardens at the heart of sites, and install light and sound as integral elements of the experience. We change what the body feels even before the mind understands.

We create systems, not one-off projects.

Rather than fixed realizations that become obsolete, we design modular and evolving devices. Your needs change, your events vary, your sites evolve – our solutions adapt. This is both more ecologically sustainable and more economically relevant.

We extract stories from reality.

Our narratives do not emerge from abstract marketing strategies but from the patient listening to your places, your materials, your gestures. We work as revealers: we bring to light what was there, invisible. The poetry we deploy is never superficial – it springs from your industrial reality.

We combine operational rigor and creative ambition.

Our projects rigorously respect your constraints – safety, flow, continuity of production, budgets – while deploying a true artistic ambition. This creative tension is our strength: we know how to coexist the demands of operation with the freedom of creation. Because we come from your world, we do not createagainstyour constraints butwiththem.

We reconnect your industry to its territory.

By integrating nature into our projects – gardens, greening, outdoor pathways – we create a connection between your sites and their environment. We show that industry can be a source of collective pride, a place of openness, and a player in regional attractiveness. Your quarries and factories are not isolated islands – they are part of a living ecosystem.

Matière Blanche: revealing the hidden beauty of your industry.

Let's transform your sites into destinations, your know-how into experiences, and your constraints into creative resources.
